Torsional Wave

ES was commissioned to undertake the design, fabrication and installation of the Torsional Wave, an outdoor exhibit which demonstrates the twisting movement which travels through a solid form. Visitors are able to twist the central strap at the base of the wave causing the rods to flow in a torsional wave along the vertical length of the exhibit.

The Torsional Wave is comprised of 25 horizontal bars, suspended vertically by means of a central tensile strap which is, in turn, attached to two parallel columns of spheres. The exhibit was built in the ES workshop, dismantled, freighted and then installed in Canberra in November 2013. Our role also included provision of engineering reports, coordination of road closures and full integration of the exhibit into the site.
