While showcasing the rich history of the Goolwa region, ‘Yuntulun Ku:li-war’ (‘Coming Together on the Headland’) is an immersive and multi-sensory exhibition which brings people together through shared experiences and functions as a launch pad into the wider Alexandrina region.

Integrating with the Signal Point Regional Gallery, ‘Yuntulun Ku:li-war’ complements this multi-purpose experience centre to weave together the history of the Goolwa Wharf Precinct, including Ngarrindjeri connection to place, early settlement history of Goolwa as a river port, and the ecology and importance of the Murray Darling River system.

Working closely with the integrated project team, stakeholders and Ngarrindjeri co-designers, ES lead an integrated cultural consultation process and undertook concept development, through to fabrication and installation.

Key to this project was the Ngarrindjeri-led content creation, with central themes of truth telling, healing and reconciliation. This project is based on a complex and multi-layered story of creation, law and human relationships.

With multi-layered storytelling around people, place and object, ES created various engagement opportunities for different visitor demographics, including those with accessibility requirements. The exhibition features physical and digital interactives, such as an ‘uncomfortable truths’ quiz, a touch-screen platformer game, a ‘race to the river mouth’ board game and multiple scent interactives, as well as captivating graphic elements and multi-media displays. A large LED wall is used to push content out to the wharf precinct, and the ‘Where’s your mob from?’ wall allows visitors the opportunity to connect and engage with each other as part of the exhibition.
