Acting as a central feature of the Thorndon Park Playground, these four large bird structures make an impactful first impression on entrance to the park, speaking to the immediate environment and cultural significance of the site.
ES rationalised and developed the concept into fully resolved, AS4685 compliant structures that bring the playground to life and create an engaging play space for all ages. These national award-winning birds provide unique play experiences, focussed on climbing, swinging, sliding and water play.
Connecting to the theme of local water birds in the area, the play structures include; a 10m Heron with climbing nets and a spiral slide, a Hen with misters for water play, a Crane with a net swing and a Wren with climbing nets for wings.
Our team undertook the detail design, engineering, fabrication and installation of the various birds and worked closely with JPE Design Studio to ensure the design kept to their intent for the space.
